Traditional Candy Art
I took some Tokyo time-off last weekend to visit Shizuoka prefecture and the huge and pretty fantastic Kakegawa festival in Kakegawa City. All festivals feature these booths and stalls of artisans, chefs and salesmen and in Kakegawa I saw this man creating little sculptures out of art. He was still young, so he’s still got a long way to go before he becomes master, but his young audience were absolutely captured by his creations and concentration. It seems such a shame to actually eat these creations though.

Nice delicious photos !!
Thank you Narfix! Nice Hello Kitty screenshot on your blog too!
were you able to purchase any?
I could have, but in the end I decided that placing delicate candy art in my already to crowded packing would only lead to disaster. So I held off.
Very beautiful tiny handwork. The dragon is really very nice looking. And what lovable tiny llittle children, … sweets are just a delight at this time, like with that two children, who look like trying to figure out how much candies one can have for a penny.
Oh, look at that proud father … the little girl is very chubby, so pretty. when children, one gets many candies or pennies to buy some when one for example do good things, respect parents, unties, uncles and so on.
Thanks for the comment! I’m a sucker for photos of cute children, can’t stop! I have tons more coming… (^-^;)
Celina – If you like kids and you like photography, I am sure you have seen this site already: http://www.thechildrenofchina.org/ They have some fantastic pictures of the cutest Chinese kids you’ll ever see.
Thank you Tokyobling. This means a lot to me seeing “tiny little familiar faces”. http://enkoppzen.blogspot.com/2009/10/oriental-beauty-oolong-and-some-good.html

Nice capture on the facial expression in the third photo. It’s a look that says decisions, oh sweet sweet candy decisions…
