Desperado X Orbis

Posted in People by tokyobling on February 3, 2010

I haven’t shot with Desperado for quite awhile recently and I thought I should share one of the pictures from our latest photo session together. I snapped this picture of him during an off-moment, between poses but I still think it captures a bit of his raw masculinity. Desperado is by far my favorite male model (anywhere in the world). That he happens to live and work near me is just a lucky coincidence. For this shot I used a 50mm prime lens with a very shallow depth of focus, f1.4. As a key light I used a SB-900 combined (the best flash on the market today) with an added Orbis Ring Flash Adapter (available here if you live in Japan) with an Orbis bracket for ease of movement. Flash set to automatic, shutter to 1/200.

Desperado is one of those models that just always delivers exactly the pose and the attitude I want when I shoot. There is no other model I’d rather work with. His deadpan sense of humor (entirely unintentional from his side) cracks me up every time. Quite possible the sexiest Japanese man alive, and quite possible one of the humblest Japanese men alive.

hmm…nice…though I prefer long hair on men to be more controlled, but that’s probably my predilection for swordsmen and fantasy settings coming out…

I walked away from the computer to make my husband’s lunch before he left for work, and he asked me if there was any special reason that this picture was up on the screen.

“Oh, just happened to stop there.”

(He knows my serious Asian man-crush is Ji Jin-hee.)

pk1554, just for you, I have more photos of him with a more controlled hair situation coming right up. (^-^) I’d love to hear your husbands opinion on them as well. Maybe I’ll put something up of a beautiful female soon, so that you can balance it up a little bit in the household. Ah, now that you mention it, Desperado would be a perfect star for a silent swordsfighter fantasy type movie!

Oh, I’m rather broad minded, and appreciate beautiful women, too. =^.^=

But I’m eager to see more of Desperado. (And may I mention that I also like to have a look at a man’s hands…)

Coming right up ma’m! (^-^) Hands and controlled hair, hope you don’t mind sunglasses.

Sounds very good…I don’t mind sunglasses.

I may want to try to model one of my next fantasy characters after him (and pair him with the sexy lady mage). That will be fun!

Go for it! And send me the screen shots! Unless you’re talking old-school D&D goodness!!!

It’s a console game…and I wasn’t able to get more than a really vague resemblance because the ability to tweak appearance is seriously limited.

I named him Despero (combining Desperado with Prospero from The Tempest — he is a mage and his dog is named, obviously, Caliban).

There may be a way to get a character profile uploaded.

Hmmm….hmmm..it seems that *all* the male characters I’ve made have long, slender faces, dark eyes and long dark hair…

    Yea, there’s something about him, I agree…

Glad we agree. And (I’d like to add) he is apparently recently single again. *hint hint*

I really hope that the good turn karma owes me is somehow related to his new status….

Well, let’s organize a shoot the next time you are in Tokyo. That’s a good start!

    Lovely shot, great processing.
Ringflash gets old pretty quick but this is really nice and he does seem like a really great model.
Plus he has a cool name ;-)

Thanks! Love your blog by the way, hadn’t seen it before.

Ringflash is just a tool, it’s very hard to modify correctly (well, that’s how it’s designed) but when we manage it right it can fantastic fun to use. I rarely use it as a stand alone end all light tool in any photo, even in this shot there is ambient to help, and the flash is set at low power levels to create a less in-yer-face look. But then again, I’m preaching to the choir here on this one (^-^)

Yep. I am still far too in love with him.

Kynapple! It’s been a long time! I guess now is not a good time to post those nudes… (^-^:)
