Kumo no Manimani – Yuki Kubota

Posted in National Art Center by tokyobling on February 26, 2010

Another fantastic sculpture set by Yuki Kubota (久保田ゆき) of Tama Art University (多摩美術大学). It is called Kumo no manimani (雲のまにまに) and I have no idea what it really means, manimani is similar to our “go with the flow” or “ride with the tide”, to be carried away by something without having any power or control over one’s destiny. But enough of my amateur linguistics! I love this combination of human expression and classical Japanese/Chinese art. I’m sure there is a deeper mythological meaning behind this but sadly the artist herself wasn’t around to be questioned. Let me know if you know!
