More Imperial Grounds in Snow
Here’s a few more photos of the unusual snow in Tokyo the other morning. The first is a panorama of the moat near Sakuradamon, viewing north, and the following photos is a few that I snapped on the way from the “Cherry Field” gate to the front of the palace grounds. There’s a subway exit near the gate and city workers were busy shoveling away the snow and ice to make it easier for pedestrians to pass. There must have been a shortage of snow equipment because I saw some workers hacking away at the ice with crow bars! I still have some other photos to show, but I’ll post them some other day. I hope we can get one or two more days of snow like this before the winter is over!

With the city so distant from the palace, it’s like being in between two distinct eras
Good observation Andy! (^-^)
Oh I love snow, its the winter wonderland look. I think my favorite is the last one. Those trees looks so sweet with the snow decorating it. Ever so lovely. I must admit I am a little bit jealous, we have no snow here. It was about 80 degrees here. It becomes tiresome having one season year round. And so confusing…I think that’s why it can be hard for people to really grasp their age? Or maybe age really doesn’t mean anything.
Thank you D! Having seasons is great, and it makes our lives more interesting I think. I have also lived in places where there are almost no differences between seasons and it does get confusing. Still, I think we humans always wish for what we haven’t got, I really long for Okinawa right now… (^-^;)
The people whom I have met from Okinawa are fantastic. They were so warm hearted and kind. I think it has that sort of inviting energy. Now I miss Okinawa, and I’ve never even been there.
Yes, Okinawa people are special, very laidback! I have had nothing but good experiences in Okinawa! (^-^)
I really like the picture with all the trees and the buildings in the background. The snow really changes how the place looks compared to how it is in spring. Were you able to get close to the palace when you went near there?
Thank you! Yes, the snow makes it all come to life again, like a totally new place to visit! It’s impossible to get very close to the palace, you’re never closer than a kilometer I think, and security is pretty strict!
I love the pics!!
Thank you Karen! (^-^)
Such a great area!
Nice pics…Snow and blue sky it’s so beautiful
Thanks
Thank you for the kind comment Lili! (^-^)/
The last photo, with all the tree shadowed on the snow–I like that. It’s hard to get a good picture of that. So much contrast!
The ground must have been warm enough to melt the snow when it began falling. Makes it very difficult to clear when the temperature drops enough to freeze that slushy snow. You have to break it up before you can shovel it away.
Thank you! I have more photos like this coming up. Yes… the ice is still around even though the snow is gone. It looks like piles of crushed ice here and there! (^-^)
Beautiful pristine day … thank you
Thank you for the kind comment! (^-^)/
I really like the last photo with all the beautiful trees in the foreground and the city so far back. It’s a beautiful perspective with the snow!
Thank you Lissa! I’m glad to hear you like it! I still have a few more photos of snow, but first a few city photos coming up! (^-^)
Speechless No.2 (no peaches this time)
Pretty snow..it is kinda strange here..there was some snow since december, once or twice, but it melted immediately
and here I was waiting to make some snowman
Timi, perhaps you will get another chance before the winter is over! February might be the month! (^-^)
