Ameyayokocho – Ueno

Posted in Places by tokyobling on February 18, 2012

Last post was a little bit of a teaser for this one, more about the famous Ameyayokocho shopping street in Ueno. A must stop for tourists visiting Tokyo this is an area where you can basically anything you need in terms of clothes, food, make up, golf equipment and almost anything else you can imagine. The last time I walked through this street with my camera was also blogged, and again, and once more, perhaps you will notice the large increase of panda bears since just a little over two years ago. I took these at the very best hour for photography obviously.

Oh, you’ve snapped one of an Okinawa products store…do you know where exactly that one is? Closer to Okachimachi or Ueno Kouen?
Actually, I’d like to collect information for tourists interested in knowing where in Tokyo the prefectures stores are. They give a nice little sampling for visitors who may only have time in the capital about food from other Japanese regions, though signs are typically in Japanese only (although I just noticed Okinawa is written in English on your photo).

It’s technically in Okachimachi, in one of the side streets, I think about level with the big Tsutaya store nearer to the park. There’s a bigger one in Ikebukuro though, and right now there are extra Tohoku support stores in Ginza! I think Ibaraki is holding the banner this week. I love these stores too, always spend too much money though! The one most convenient for tourists must be the Miyazaki store in Shinjuku’s Southern Terrace.
