Tokyo Sky Tree – Nearly Finished
I took these two photos of Tokyo Sky Tree earlier this month. The exterior of the tower is finished but there remains a lot of work on the inside. It will be great to go up the top some day! I can imagine there will be a long waiting list to get tickets. Maybe in a few years time. The first picture is taken from the Asakusa side of the Sumida river, and the other one is taken through thick glass inside a boat, hence the low quality. From where I took these photos, the tower must be 5-7km away, so you can imagine how unbelievably tall it is. The first person who reads this blog and goes up the tower when it is all finished, let us know!

I won’t get to go up the tower but I’m looking forward to seeing it from the river boat soon!
Glad to hear that the river trip made it on your list! (^-^)
I must say I did find it amusing that they were already selling souvenir cakes and models of the completed tower long before even the exterior was finished.
You have to strike while the iron is hot! Which makes me think, souvenir shops for places that doesn’t exist, isn’t it all very postmodern? I think Baudrillard would have loved the concept…. (^-^;)
First trip to Gotemba (stopped for lunch on the way to Shiz) I saw all these gaudy Fuji souvenirs for sale. Only problem though: no mountain. It was summer and even though Fuji was right there in front of us, we couldn’t even tell what direction it was. The bus lady even proudly pointed it out to us seemingly pretending she could see it, from a pre-rehearsed script. Felt like a rip-off. “There’s no mountain here!!!”
Haha… that’s a typical story. I took me years too before I first saw Fujisan, no matter when or from what angle, it was always too cloudy. (^-^;)
and it’s just amazingly massive from up close!
Yes! I haven’t been there in a long time but it is so massive that it’s been called a risk zone for auto accidents and the like. (^-^;) People stare and hit something…
went by the other day. It looked so finished I asked to go up-not ready yet. it’s cool engineering, and a bit of an illusion as it’s not just round but kind of elliptical and the upper viewing deck has some lop-sided part too. A bit of a checkered story of cost and ‘kuza connections, but not surprising-the same story with most any building the world round. looks neat at night too.
Indeed! You like to keep well informed Vish! (^-^) I think I should go again soon, maybe today? The rain makes me less energetic though…. (^-^;)
I’ll be sure to check that out when i travel to Tokyo later this year! Oh, and I just discovered this blog and it’s very cool, good work
Thank you Ulrik! So glad you like it!
Wow it looks so futuristic. I’m flashing back to the Jetsons right now.
Doesn’t it? The Jetsons, now that was a good cartoon!
