Tropical Bird House – Inokashira Zoo
I love hot houses, and I love zoos and birds of all kinds. Especially in the winter there is nothing like moving through the entrance of a grand tropical bird house, hot and humid and the air filled with strange noisesm coming from a bitterly cold and bleak winter day outside. Last month I visited the Inokashira Zoo and took these photos inside their hot house. Lots of different birds, sometimes so close that you could reach out and touch them (not that you would). I don’t know why I didn’t take more photos but it could have something to do with my camera fogging up completely as I came inside. So to make up for the few photos inside I add a hawk during feeding time! I shot this through a thick fence and it still came out all right – the power of a long lens with a wide opening! In this case my trusty 135mm f2.0.

What an elegant little hawk!
Thank you Lily! I wish I could see more animals in nature but zoos are the next best thing! (^-^;)
I’m fascinated, especially the red bird. It looks so small.
Thank you Jean! It was rather smallish, 40cm tall perhaps? But so beautiful!
I still want to work in a zoo..
I wish the birds would be friendly enough to pet them *_*
another piece of art from mother nature
Thanks Timi! I would so much love to work in a zoo. What a perfect place for a camera and animal lover!
