Triton Bridge – Harumi Island
This is probably going to be one of the most obscure posts on Tokyo I will ever make: just a short notice on my visit to Triton Bridge, named after the nearby Harumi Island Triton Square, a commercial center in the middle of Tokyo’s Chuo Ward, on an artificial island between Kachidoki, Tsukushima and mainland Tokyo. The area itself is worthy of a couple of more detailed posts, but what is the interesting although obscure point about Triton Bridge is the fact that it is the first and (as far as I know) only bridge in the world with a moving sidewalk. Just think about it. If crossing a wide river/canal/bay on a moving sidewalk is anywhere on the list of experiences you wish to have, you must come here. Or, should you ever find yourself strolling past this bridge with some friends, imagine the look on their faces when you pull up this amazing little piece of Tokyo trivia!

Sounds fun… I would love to try it. Just to be able to say: ‘ I once tried a sidewalked a bridge’
(even though that not what happen ^^)
I was wondering… How long is the bridge?
Haha… I don’ really know how long it is, but it’s quite a long bridge. (^-^;)
There is another bridge with a moving walkway in Moscow.
Its name is Bagration Bridge http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bagration_Bridge
Thank you Ilya! I had no idea there were more bridges like this. At least Triton was the first, I haven’t been to Moscow in over 13 years…! Next time I go there I’ll have to go and check it out!
oh, I’ve mistakenly wandered to this bridge. glad to see a post about it…at least it’s not far from Tsukishima and its monjayaki restaurants.
You know Tokyo well! Yes, I almost wandered over there by mistake too, it’s not really a place you go to on purpose… (^-^;)
