Dinosaurs in Marunouchi
A couple of weeks ago Marunouchi was invaded by dinosaurs from Fukui prefecture on the north coast of Japan. Japanese kids, like kids everywhere I guess, have a serious love for dinosaurs, and they’re also lucky in that Japan is a good place to go fossil hunting. Three complete skeletons (casts) were on display as well as a few other interesting animated dinosaurs and educational videos and even life sized dinosaur scientists that were a great hit with the kids! First of we had the carnivorous 12m long Acrocanthosaurus atokensis from Oklahoma USA, and a Pteranodon longiceps with a wing span of 7m was hung in the ceiling. The Japan native Fukuisaurus tetoriensis, a herbivore Iguanadontian. Seeing these exhibitions in Marunouchi Building and the nearby Oazu Building really brought back memories from when I was dinosaur crazy kid myself! I think a trip to Fukui prefecture really must be arranged some time soon.

Oh, what! The Acrocanthosaurus was from OK? How GUUZEN. 😉 And I didn’t see the wonderful Fukuisaurus creation. Where was he hiding? He is very different than any dinosaur I’ve ever seen! Look at those nub hands and that giant beak! >_<

Haha… I was going to point it out to you but it must have slipped my mind! (^-^;) The Fukuisaurus was in another building that I don’t think you visited, Oazu just to the north of Tokyo station!

My only point of critique would be that you should have posted those while the exhibition was still going on! I, too, would have loved to take that trip down memory lane… In exchange I request to accompany you to your upcoming dinosaur hunt in Fukui-ken! ;o)

Haha… I know! I actually felt bad posting this after the event when I could have posted it while it was still up and running! A trip to Fukui would be great… (^-^)

Hi Timi! Yes, the prof-dino reminds me of when I was a kid and we tried to figure out if dinos would ever have evolved intelligence! (^-^;)

I echo my daughter’s astonishment! I thought that dino WAS Fukuisauras and even wrote so in my blog. (Of course I wasn’t reading the information panel there. ^^;;) And that guy was brought in from my very state and I knew nothing about him ^^;;;) But of course Fukuisauras does look like a dino suited for Japan – a small herbivore.

This reminds me of my childhood. I was taken to a lot of museums, and there were always dinosaurs. I was a bit scared of them. That little fella looked like a mixture of fear and amusement. Little daredevil in the making.

I remember those dinosaur crazying-loving days. Who would have thought dinosaurs would have such great dressing standards, hehe 😛
It’s great seeing that it’s not just kids who have taken an interest in the exhibition. Guess it brings any adult back to their childhood ^-^
