Soushokukei – Kumi Sato
This sculpture by young Kumi Sato (佐藤久美) from Joshibi Art University (女子美術大学) was exhibited at the National Art Center in March this year. It’s obviously a herbivore animal of some kind and it’s titled Soushokukei, which is probably a play on words with the term Soushoku Danshi, a term that has become part of everyday vocabulary among young people here in Japan. I wish I could explain it to you but Wikipedia does it better. Still, it’s a wonderfully crafted sculpture. And as usual, even with my considerable google-fu I fail to find anything about this artist online.

I could have sworn that I saw something close to this animal while driving through the desert once. It was huge and my friend was driving so she says she didn’t see it, it was like a mini sized Godzilla.
I’ve heard of the Herbivore men, my friend met quite a few while living in Japan. I think whatever makes them happy, right? As long as you’re not hurting anyone, do what feels comfortable for you. It will work out in the end.
That sounds interesting! I would have stopped the car I think… I agree. I don’t think there is anything really negative with being a herbivore man, or woman for that matter. To each their own! (^-^)
This thing was huge, we were on the freeway and at the speed we were going in a pick-up truck I could only catch a glimpse. It must have been about 3.5 feet long, and it looked pretty mad. I thought it was a Komodo dragon. I wanted to slow down a little, but you can’t on the freeway.
Yay, to each their own!
Hmmm- interesting concept.
It looks like she used drift wood for the piece, doesn’t it?
