Tokugenin Temple – Bunkyo Ward

Posted in Places by tokyobling on June 20, 2012

A quite afternoon a few months ago I took a walk in the northern parts of Tokyo’s Bunkyo ward, and happened to pass Tokugenin Temple, my first visit. A beautiful day and I took a few snapshots of details of this lovely little temple. In the last few pictures you’ll see some of the child statues you often find in Japanese temples, with offerings of plush toys and small statues of buddhas.

Tokugenin belongs to the Tendai school of Chinese buddhism, and this temple is one of many satellite temples to the main Tokugenin temple in Shiga prefecture in western Japan. One day I’ll try to visit there!

Wow! This is more my world! I can totally relate to thos temple photos as that’s what I mainly take photos of – not of people! Though your photos inspire me to try and take photos of people as well!
Even your photos of buildings are so great! I still have a long way to go.
Thank you very much for sharing! :)

Thank you for your kind words! I admire anyone who can take good photos of Japanese temples, they are such incredibly difficult subjects with huge contrasts in light and shade. I still haven’t ever managed to take a temple photo I really like… but I’ll keep trying! (^-^;)
