Robot Art – Ginza

Posted in Stuff by tokyobling on June 23, 2012

A couple of weeks ago I snapped this lovely little robot statue in the window of a high class art gallery in Tokyo’s Ginza district. It was late at night and closed, but I think I need to get there again during opening hours to find out more about the artist!

I love that you can find little art galleries all over Tokyo.

It’s so interesting how robot/technology becomes part of art. I’ve always thought of softer and rounded shapes as organic, that sort of shape lends itself to the contradiction of technology and humanity perhaps. Hmm…maybe it’s just meant to be cute…

D… ever the philosopher! I think, since we are surrounded by technology, that art also should reflect it. Maybe not in the brutalitst/futurist sort of way in the 1920’s but still… (^-^)
