Hachoji Matsuri Geisha Parade
There’s few things I enjoy more at the big city festival than seeing the geisha parades. I don’t know what kind of geisha the members of these parades are, but they look fantastic in their costumes, their make up and with their singing it becomes very effective. They carry red paper lanterns with their geisha names written on them. The lanterns are called chouchin (提灯). You don’t get to see these geisha parades very often, but some festivals have them. I saw these beauties at the Hachioji festival in western Tokyo.

All your photos tell a story, so vivid and stimulating to look at. You are blessed with a gift, thanks for sharing
Thank you for the kind comment! (^-^)/
One of the things I envy about the Japanese is their ability to mix patterns and colors and still appear so beautiful and put together. From the more traditional outfits as the geishas are wearing to the modern everyday clothes, they just look so stylish.
I couldn’t agree more Carrie Ann! (^-^)
I always fall in love with that make up/clothing the ladies have, and the festival just makes the whole thing even better! And don’t forget the kids, cute!
For now my prize would go to that lovely smiling lady on the last picture, she seems really peaceful!
Thanks for the kind comment Timi! I totally agree. The kids are adorable and the ladies seems so confident!
wow! i wish i could see this in real life!
Thanks! Lovely blog by the way! Your Havana photos are great!
thank you!
You should make a very beautiful photo book on all the festivals you attended in Japan.
Thank you! I wish I could have gone to see the Fussa Air Base festival this weekend, but as neither Japanese nor US it’s is kinda hard to just wander up to the gates alone… (^-^;)
Oh yeah….I’m not sure they would have let you in..:P
