Aunren – 阿呍連 Shimokitazawa Awaodori
This young woman and her baby easily wins the award for the coolest dancers at this year’s awaodori festival in the hip Shimokitazawa district this Friday and Saturday. It was a great small group who should be proud to have this woman and her handsome baby in their ranks! More photos from this group later, and for the photographically interested I took these with my 50mm f1.4D Nikkor on a Nikon D700 body. Good combo!

Three minutes on an iPhone later…
阿呍連
I saw these guys out and about, but didn’t see this particular pairing. Nicely spotted!
It’s あうん by the way, not あらん. It will come up as a henkan option on the Mac. Meaningwise, it’s the two red demons(?) you find outside temples, one going “aaaah”, one going “uuuuun”, and guarding the entrance. I probably should have asked first and searched later… Anyway, looks like a very old kanji, as the Mac warns it won’t display properly on some email clients.
Thanks! I can not believe I missed that! Especially since I a blogged about it not even a year ago. I blame this “heat oppressed brain” of mine… (^-^;)
Not so heat oppressed, though, to miss this most excellent mother and child (lord or lady of all s/he surveys).
(Heat wave finally broken here, at least.)
Sweet, adorable baby! He’ll grow into a handsome guy, for sure! (Mom, hide him from Mr. Johnny!) [My usual comment, ehehehe] ^^;
Haha… (^-^;)
