Awaodori Men

Posted in Japanese Traditions, People, Places by tokyobling on August 30, 2012

Awaodori is famous for loud music and graceful ladies, but there’s quite a few very handsome men giving their best as well. Here’s a few of the most irresistible guys I could find at the Minamikoshigaya Awaodori festival a little while ago. I have more of these hunks stored up for the coming month! These guys are members of the Kakashiren, Koutaren and Ishinren and the famous, near mythological Ebisuren, respectively Enjoy!

The men do tend to get short-changed in favour of the ladies and children. Good to see you’re doing something to rebalance this issue.

Thanks! Yes I have notice that…! Strange, since men never look better than when performing in these costumes! Besides, they are a little easier to photograph (at least the ones not in otoko-odori…).

Oh, ho! Some rogues, some princes and a couple who might be cast as the light-hearted or comic relief side-kick sort. And one guy with glasses!

I will look forward to more.
