More Shinoburen – Shimokitazawa Awaodori
More pictures of the wonderful Shinoburen (しのぶ連 or 忍連) at last months Shimokitazawa Awaodori festival in Tokyo’s Setagaya ward. Can’t get enough of this group and their superbly timed dancing. They really work hard to make the most use of the long stretch of road in their dances with some more intricate maneuvers. Enjoy!

The older gentleman in the picture 3rd from last I met a few times. He has a really delicate dance style, and is a lot of fun to watch.
Indeed! They are all very refined, almost soft in their dancing. It’s really fun to see all the subtle variances between the teams!
Come to mention it, I’ve met the girl in 5 (4th row) a few times too. We must do a lot of the same festivals.
Lucky you! (^-^)
These are wonderful! I would love to be there for the festival.
Thank you! You should visit some time!
Wow, those…mature…gentlemen are so fired up!
(I particularly like photo #6 for some reason. And the woman in the next photo is lovely.)
Haha… thank you! Well, now you see why I tell Japanese not to worry too much about the larger number of older people in the population, Japanese elderly are on a different level from the elderly in the US or Europe… (^-^)
These are amazing shots! I know these shots are not always easy – it’s so crowded at festivals like these, with people pushing and shoving!
Thank you! I guess practice pays…! And learning how to interact with the crowds… (^-^;)
Both of the post about these guys are full of energy as always
However the first thing what I noticed was that the guys have pink clothes, and that it doesn’t look bad at all, they look great! (if some guys wear that color around here, I notice it at first and..well, they doesn’t really give away a manly aura..:D)
In Northern Europe and the USA pink has been common in fashion details for men for many years, but maybe not as a major color…? I totally agree they look as manly as anything else in this color though! Proof that color does not matter so much in that respect. (^-^)
