Sumida River Walk – Asakusa

Posted in Places by tokyobling on February 12, 2013

The last of my photos from the Sumida river walk last week! Asakusa has really gotten a facelift recently, especially with the perfectly placed tall tourism building opposite the famous Kaminarimon, a perfect way point for any tour of Asakusa and especially a good place to get a little bit of rest before heading into the temple complex with its beautifully lit temple buildings. Especially if you are lucky enough to get interesting skies like I did!

Sumida River Walk To Asakusa

Posted in Places by tokyobling on February 10, 2013

Here’s the second part of last weeks walk along Tokyo’s central Sumida River with the famous Asahi Building and the distinctive golden shape on top that despite what it sometimes look like is a “flamme d’or”! Turning right before the building you’ll reach the wide Azumabashi and crossing the river will take you to Tokyo’s premier tourist attraction, Asakusa, which just keeps getting better and better.

Sumida River Walk

Posted in Places by tokyobling on February 7, 2013

If you ever have free afternoon in Tokyo I recommend taking a long walk along the Sumida river, one of Tokyo’s rivers that I have blogged about many times before. The route is simple and not too long: take a train to Asakusabashi station, on either the JR Sobu line or the Toei Asakusa Line and then walk straight out of the station, following the Sobu line tracks all the way to the river, then just follow the river north and cross it whenever you feel like it until you reach the big black cube building before turning left, crossing the river and arriving at Asakusa station and the famous Sensoji temple! Hopefully you’ll arrive just after dusk, before the shops closes but after the usual massive crowds have left! Here are some photos I took from a few days ago. I’ll post the rest soon, so stay tuned!

Skies Over Sumida River

Posted in Places by tokyobling on February 5, 2013

Yesterday I took a long walk along Sumida river to enjoy the gorgeous weather and the beautiful sky. Late in the afternoon and the sun was shining through underneath thicker clouds casting a light and shadows to the west. I took these two photos within seconds of each other, with a warm tone filter and a polarizing filter. It seems colder weather is returning to Tokyo, but at least we had a few days of almost spring!
