Convenience Store After the Rain

Posted in Places, Shops by tokyobling on May 12, 2013

In Miyazaki prefecture’s coastal Hyuga City I drove past this Family Mart convenience store basking in the last glow of the sun just after a rain squall.

Skies of Cape Toimisaki

Posted in Nature, Places by tokyobling on February 28, 2013

I have posted before about Cape Toimisaki, the southernmost end of Miyazaki prefecture on the island of Kyushu, and the wild horse that live there. The cape rises quite dramatically out of the ocean and on the top of the cape it feels almost like you are standing on a mountain in the middle of the ocean. I took these photos around the high points of the narrow cape as light was falling at the end of the day, at the end of the summer.

More Tsuno Shrine – Miyazaki

Posted in Places by tokyobling on February 23, 2013

More photos of the beautiful Tsuno Shrine in Tsuno Town, Miyazaki shrine. The shrine is about 2.5km from Tsuno Station but most visitors as indeed most people in Miyazaki come by car which is convenient as it is right on the side of National Route 10. The shrine has a large garden with a pond full of carp, dragonflies and all kinds of amphibians.

The relatively tiny Tsuno town is famous for their golden blowfish, Kinfugu and their Oszuyama, a mountain with some very good hiking paths.

Tsuno Shrine – Miyazaki

Posted in Places by tokyobling on February 20, 2013

Living in Japan you tend to get used to being around ancient things, so even this shrine that has been in continuos use from 837 A.D. tend to get overlooked by most tour books. Tsuno Shrine in the town with the same name is a gorgeous shrine in Miyazaki prefecture on the southern island of Kyushu. Tsuno Shrine is dedicated to the God of Nation-building, Farming, business and medicine, Okuninushi, one of the legendary founders of the nation of Japan and the patron God of the province. If you ever pass along the main highway of Miyazaki prefecture, take a few minutes at least to see this beautiful shrine. I was lucky to arrive just as the head priest was entertaining some guests with tea and cake, and he was kind enough to invite me as well.
