Meet Unko-san

Posted in Places, Shops, Stuff by tokyobling on August 25, 2009

Anyone up for some more whacky products?

I have said it before and I will say it again if necessary: Japanese have a very healthy way of thinking about our inevitable bodily functions. The latest example of this must be Unko-san (うんこさん), a plush toy of I think you can guess what it is. Isn’t he adorable? Available as plush toys, cell phone straps and generally all around bling. Found in a certain very famous Japanese toy store in front of JR Ueno station. Great stuff!

Lawson Convenience Stores

Posted in Shops by tokyobling on August 19, 2009

There is nothing like being out on a midnight road trip in the middle of Nowhere in Rural Japan, and seeing this. A Lawson Convenience store, almost empty, at midnight. I don’t know how they make it profitable, but we are all thankful for their hard work. A perfect place to load up on coffee for the driver, ice cream for everyone and snack for the people in the back seat. Drive Safely this summer, and remember to take frequent short breaks!

Shop Window Decoration – Harajuku

Posted in Places, Shops by tokyobling on August 7, 2009

Had to stop and snap a few of this rather unusual shop window decoration in Tokyo’s fashion capital, Harajuku. The Filth. And. The Fury. Indeed! Street Casual fashion for young men, if I am not mistaken. Now I have to find who in Tokyo makes these custom neon lights! Anyone has any ideas?

Mickey Daruma Poster

Posted in Places, Shops by tokyobling on June 16, 2009

Another goodie I came across in Yokosuka’s infamous Dobuita Street. This creepy looking mash up between Micky M and the old Daruma doll of local fame. It must be the year of the mouse right now, only it isn’t. Fun poster though.
