The Metal Art of Nozomu Shibata – 柴田望

Posted in People, Places, Stuff by tokyobling on June 7, 2010

One of the most interesting works of art at the Matsumoto craft fair held last week in Matsumoto city, Nagano prefecture, was the metal art of Nozomu Shibata of HOPE Metal Craft. Just look at this series of brass aquatic creatures fitted out to look like robots and submarines! I fell in love at first sight. The man himself is a pretty cool man. When I asked if I could shoot his work he replied “Sure, free advertising!” Here you are Mr. Shibata! When I get rich I’ll buy the whole series! <柴田先生、英語のHPつくらなきゃ!>

Now, imagine one of these big enough to live in! I don’t want to call the “s” word on these (you know what I mean) but they’re pretty darn close… Enjoy!

Aren’t they? I wouldn’t mind a real life sized bulldozer shaped like those crabs…!

I would like to purchase one of these sculptures if they are reasonably priced. How do I proceed?

Hi Jim, thanks for the comment! The best way would be to contact the artist directly, I am not sure what kind of system he has set up to handle orders, but let me know if you’re having language trouble getting in touch with him!

This guy is a genius and he should be charging 10 times what he’s charging 🙂
