Umbrella Vending Machine

Posted in Places, Stuff by tokyobling on August 10, 2010

I have seen some pretty far-out vending machines during my time in Japan but somehow I had never seen the most obviously useful kind of vending machine, selling umbrellas! Until I passed JR Omiya station that is. This wonderful little machine sells three kinds of umbrellas, vinyl, black and collapsible at 450 yen to 1000 yen. Finally I found one! It’s flanked by the much more common drinks and newspaper vending machines.

There is another one at Suidobashi eki (Chuo Sobu line), East exit. I think this is exactly the same machine

Thanks for the info! I guess it is the same machine, that company is a JR group provider… I have been through that station a few times over the years but never noticed the machine…!

Haha, that is great. It would be useful if you got your umbrella accidentally stolen (they all look the same!) lol. Sorry I’ve been silent for awhile… just tired. I’ve enjoyed all your beautiful festival pics.

Haha… only once have I seen someone steal an umbrella in Japan (a foreigner…). I have picked up a number of discarded umbrellas though. I have a bunch of these white umbrellas at home, for some reason I never seem to lose them. All my nice umbrellas are quickly lost though. Weird.

Hope you’re getting some rest during the summer! Good to have you back!
