More Cars of the Past

Posted in Stuff by tokyobling on September 2, 2010

Two more cars from the Toyota show room in Ikebukuro. First out is a lovely Flying Feather, unfortunately I can’t find anymore information on this car except for the Japanese Wikipedia entry but it looks fantastic with those unusual wheels! Another fun detail is the retractable rear view mirrors trafficators, must be great for pocket parking. More raw data on the car is here. It seems like it is also a convertible, which is funny since unlike Europe, the vast majority of Japanese can’t stand convertibles. Cold winters, hot summers and huge insects flying around I presume. Or maybe they just don’t like that “cab” hairstyle? The lady in the catalog photo surely wouldn’t want her hair messed up! Especially not when she is parked on what looks like an imperial park!

Last picture (and only) is of the very chubby and charming Toyota Publica Sedan. More data info here. It reminds me of one of my childhood favorites, the Volvo Amazon.

I wonder what size engine it has, or does it have pedal power looking at those push bike type wheels!

It sure looks like a push pedal contraption, but according to the data there’s a proper engine in it!

I think the things on the sides are not rear view mirrors, they must be – hm, are they called winkers? Like this: http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Winker

Thank you Mirja! Trafficators, in English. Wonderful!
