Last Manly Kimono

Posted in Places by tokyobling on February 5, 2011

Last two shots from the kimono photo shoot last month. I have plenty more but I don’t want to bore you, and the rest would just be variations on these. It’s fun to have so many different shots from a single shoot to play with, in terms of editing and re-touching. This guy is one of the few models where I hardly do any actual re-touching, focusing on fixing shadows, evening out highlights and colors. Great fun! It almost reminds me of the good old days I used to spend in the dark room. Ah, memories!

Thanks! Yes, he is rather good at posing in just the right way. And of course, I move around a little bit to catch his best angle!

Could that be the smallest hint of a sly, knowing smile in photo #1…?
I believe it is. Well done.

Yes, Russian on my father’s side–his elders spoke it at home, he knew only a little. He sometimes sang this (in Russian)

        Dark eyes, passionate eyes
        Burning and splendid eyes
How I love you, how I fear you…

Cool…! If I ever have kids here in Japan, maybe they too will speak of their strange foreign grandpa… (^-^)

I really like these pictures!!! He looks like a model that can go for “international” ( or he does already??) and just let photographer be greater I think!!!:)
Also, he kinda reminds me of Tyson Bedford!

Haha… thanks! Yes, it’s great for your ego to have fantastic models like him! (^-^;) He seems to be getting more work outside of Japan than in country. I think Japanese aren’t ready for a “samurai” looking male model yet.

I don’t know why, but the first picture made me think about this one

Really like the first one, so mysterious and so samurai!

Ah, Roslin! I know what you mean! But if I was one tenth as talented a photographer as he was a painter my photos would be on the cover of fashion magazines the world over! (^-^) Thank you for the kind comments though!

      Yes, I saw it too.

“…and then I asked him with my eyes to ask again yes and then he asked me would I yes to say yes my mountain flower and first I put my arms around him yes…”

Despite being an (incipient) crone I remember the fires of youth. =^..^=

Haha…. you, a crone? Well, you are doing a great job (as far as I can tell) passing the torch of your fiery youth on to your gifted daughter! (^-^)

Well, yes, we, umm, older ladies still have our needs and desires, as well as our memories.

(I was married for 13 years before my daughter came along.)

Hi Meri! I think this is shot with a Nikon D3S and a 50mm f1.4 lens. Could be a Nikon D700 as well but I am not 100% certain.
