The Most Expensive Christmas Tree In The World

Posted in Places, Shops by tokyobling on December 5, 2011

I don’t know if the title of this post is correct or not but here’s a little christmas tree I found in Tokyo’s Ginza district, the Ginza Tanaka store’s 12kg solid gold tree! That is 672 048 dollars in today’s gold price. Not bad for a store window decoration don’t you think? Incidentally, the name Ginza means Silver Seat, or in modern English, mint. This is one of the places in Japan where money was minted back in the old days, 1612 to be exakt. All places where there was a royal mint is called Ginza today, so if you find a Ginza outside of Tokyo you’ll know the history of the place. Today it is also famous for being the place in the world with the highest valued land, Ginza was the first area of Tokyo to be fully westernized after the old buildings burnt down in 1872.

Don’t worry about it, it was just one of those regular huge fires that struck most Japanese cities. (^-^;)

Well, there is an old man standing guard in uniform and I think there is one younger man in plain clothes. But Japan has a very low crime rate and there’s probably a dozen other store within a 100m that has much more expensive things on display! (^-^)
