Ichigo Daifuku – Japanese Sweets
This my friends, is my absolute favorite when it comes to Japanese traditional sweets. The Ichigo Daifuku (苺大福) is a strawberry inside sweet bean paste covered in a layer of powdered and pounded sweet sticky rice paste. It is much better than it sounds and even people who are usually not into red bean paste enjoy this one! There’s several other variants where instead of strawberry you have other sweets and fruits or even salt or coffee! But this is the best one. Found in a Ginza sweet shop. Expensive but well worth it.
Very pretty. I’ve never had them with fresh fruit before… I guess the tang of the strawberry & the sweetness of the red bean paste goes well together? Good to know they are not just expensive overseas.

Yes, I think so! It’s nearly the perfect combination I think. With expensive I mean 150-300 yen depending on size, quality and brand! (^-^;)

The strawberries look like little flames. The display shows such care (of course).

I’m with @QQ — have not seen them with fresh fruit before. Gotta be great that way.
I find it interesting that many southeast Asian sweets (not just Japan — also Indonesia, and especially Korea) are not particularly sweet in Western terms. This certainly isn’t true of everything — I’ve had some lovely Thai stuff that was not terribly sweet, and some lovely Thai things that were nearly as sweet as Western desserts — but it is quite common. I’ve eaten desserts that were barely sweet at all, and some are even salty. Anyway, a lovely photo of a lovely presentation. Thank you!

Yes, my Japanese friends often refuse to eat western food and candy as it is just too sweet. Thank you for your kind words! (^-^)
