Hachioji Matsuri Festival Float

Posted in Japanese Traditions, People, Places by tokyobling on August 13, 2012

Hachioji like most towns in Japan has some fantastic Dashi, these great mobile illuminated shrines with dancers, musicians and sometimes singers that bring the blessings of the Gods to the people of the towns. At golden hour you get some pretty amazing tones of red and blue. This one had a really good dancer with a wicked demon mask, long hair and a sword. One of the best I’ve seen so far! Hachioji is one of many cities in the Tokyo Metropolitan area, with a population of about 582 000 people but so densely populated it feels much bigger.

Thank you Cherie! It is fantastically vibrant, but in an organized Japanese kind of vibrant… (^-^)

Love the natural blue/teal colour contrast straight off the colour wheel. The first couple of pictures have a lot of punch.
