Shibuya Nebuta Matsuri 2012

Posted in Japanese Traditions, People, Places by tokyobling on September 17, 2012

Just like last year (see my blog here and here) Shibuya threw a mini-Nebuta Matsuri this weekend. You might remember the posts about the much bigger Nebuta Matsuri in Western Tokyo last month. The floats in this mini festival is much smaller than the real things but still look pretty impressive. The strangely addictive Nebuta flutes and drums really helped setting the amotsphere and the kids sent down from a high school and a university in Aomori prefecture were as lively as always!

Hi Todor and thanks for the kind comment! I do almost nothing to these images, reduces size, 30% sharpening and maybe maybe some fine tuning of contrast. I can’t spend too much time on these photos since I post every day and still have a full time job. (^-^;)

I completely understand where you are coming from there. Sometimes, I just use a preset to speed things up. Not enough time in the day!

I always enjoyed the Nebuta Festival in Aomori! It was so much fun! I also stood out like a big fish in a small pond but I love it!!

I was using a point and shoot camera at the time….so I guess the best you can get from one of those. 🙂

Do you ever look at your photos and wonder what they were thinking. I just look at them and can imagine what was going through their heads. It’s one of the fun parts about people watching (I haven’t decided if that’s creepy that I do that) and their expressions.

I think most people are concentrated on what they are doing, their art, their performance or their participation! Or just enjoying life, just like it looks they are doing. (^-^)

I think you’re right, but sometimes I think I read a little extra. Like the lady playing the flute(?), she looks like she’s really concentrating. I then think that she’s a considerate person. I know I’m just inventing a back story for that person, but there is something about it that I enjoy. Everyone has a beautiful tale to tell, I think that’s what I really like about meeting new people.

Haha… I think some of them are a bit embarrassed by them actually… (^-^;)
