Shibuya Festival Cat

Posted in Animals, Places by tokyobling on November 29, 2012

I have seen most domestic animals I can think of at festivals in Japan, mostly perched on the shoulders of their owners or on a leash behind them – ferrets, dogs, pigs, monkey, parrots, etc. but by far the most photogenic of the many festival loving animals of Japan are the cats – there seems to be something about them that makes you want to dress them up in a cute dress and take out to town! Here’s one such festival cat I found in Shibuya, this summer. His owner must have used to being photographed so I clicked away! Now, if only I could find a donkey in a jinbei or a lizard in a loincloth? Enjoy festival cat! You might remember an earlier and even prettier festival cat from Asakusa.

    Awe-some.

Daiso (yes they have stores here too) sells dog shirts, something I never saw before. I found a Hawaiian print shirt and photographed a cat wearing it, “holding” a Corona. Not nearly as classy as this cat! 😀

Daiso is global!? Who would have guessed? Corona and Hawaii? Mix’n’match! (^-^)

Well, Daiso came to California at least. We have large Japanese and Japanese-American communities in at least three urban areas (SF, Sacramento, LA). Of course, being California, there are warning signs near stuff that has materials that could cause cancer. Mostly around the pottery (cadmium) and knickknacks (lead)

And West Coasters generally vacation in Mexico and Hawaii, so I’ll claim it as appropriate 😉 I took whatever beer I found in the fridge and had the kid hold the cat, who was clearly in too much shock over the situation to fight. Even found it (and the pink argyle sweater!) on Flickr, from long ago… http://www.flickr.com/photos/webojunk/2570262469/

Sweet shot! And a sweet cat too. It could be conceptual art almost. (^-^)

Haha, this reminds me of the guy in Shibuya who was carrying around his cat on a wood plate… The people at nikishi shopping street where all greating him and the cat… Guess he’s a regular costumer… 😀

I like my life, so I guess no 😀 But no problem, since the cats already look awesome without making them wear clothes (^ – ^)

Perhaps you (or your readers) might enjoy the photos that Miyoko IHARA has taken of her grandmother Misao and her constant feline companion, Fukumaru. Misao is in her late 80s, still goes out to work in the fields with Fukumaru. The photos have been published in book form: Misao the Big Mama and Fukumara the Cat.

    I learned about them here:
