More Kurayami Festival

Posted in Japanese Traditions, People, Places by tokyobling on July 6, 2013

More photos from the Kurayami festival in Fuchu City, western Tokyo. In the old days Kurayami festival was famous for being a night festival, hence its name. Naturally a night festival is not the most fitting family event and eventually it was changed to become a day time festival and these days it is attended by many families. The costumes, the huge drums and the colorful people make this one of the most photogenic festivals in the country!
