Enoshima Sunset

Posted in Nature, Places by tokyobling on February 27, 2014

The last of the sunlight as it washes over Enoshima’s Nishihama beach. Despite the late hour the beach was crowded, no doubt to see the exceptionally visible Mount Fuji. I seem to have knack for finding lost toy dinosaurs. This mecha dinosaur must surely be the offspring of this magnificent beast? There was a young lady doing ballet near the water, and as I walked out onto the breakwater pier a couple of kids came scrambling up from the rocks. A good ending to a perfect day.

This western beach near Enoshima island is even more popular than the eastern beach I blogged about earlier. Not least because it is connected to the grand Enoshima Aquarium, a must see for most people and especially for families.

I remember this beach all too well — was unknowingly dragged to the aquarium first thing off the train. Quite possibly the only aquarium with jellyfish featured in wine glasses and starring in psychedelic light shows! The translated poems in the show almost made up for the admission fee 🙂

Also learned that the tower on the island was lit up special for the holidays, all the way to Valentine’s Day, in an attempt to bring more tourism year-round. It’s tempting to restart my own blog and show off pics…

It was so great to learn on that trip that one can take a train ~1 hour in any direction and be out of the concrete morass of Tokyo! But then it’s scary to realize that inbetween, the population almost equals that of all of California. Mind boggling.

Mind boggling indeed! This fact has always been my number one motivation at laughing at people who think that Japan has a demographic problem. Indeed it does, but not in the way mainstream economists assume! (^-^)

The tower light up is a good thing, I have always thought that much more can be done to improve the night life on Enoshima, which until this year was absolutely non-existant. Looking forward to the summer season already!

Thank! Haha… I think that there is a correlation here with the number of absent minded small boys versus absent minded small girls! (^-^)

That dog has a real nice pullover (or whatever it is called 😀 ). It must be great having this much water around, with a sunset like this it makes a great topic for shooting!

Waters, sunsets, dogs, people… some of my favorite subjects! (^-^) It was a little cold so I am sure the dog was happy for the clothes!
