Animals and Wildlife at Enoshima

Posted in Animals, Places by tokyobling on April 19, 2014

I took these photos while visiting Enoshima, a small island right of the Pacific Ocean coast in Japan’s Kanagawa Prefecture. Enoshima is superbly photogenic and I had enough photos just relating to animals that I thought I should make a proper post of it. The are tobi, squirrels, cats, dogs and fish! The tobi are the most majestic birds you are likely to see in the wild in Japan and they are everywhere. Normally when going birdwatching you need a really long lens for your camera but these tobi are so close that most average cameras should be able to get decent photos of them! Enjoy!

That cat’s name is Mouseback & he was brought to the island all the way from NYC where he was born. He is 12 years old & had 7 brothers & sisters. He chooses to live outside sticking it out rain or shine & as a free & independent spirit.

I brought him over from NYC with me. I own the house with the green roof next to the park @ the top of Enoshima 2-5-17. Come over & relax @ the cafe & enjoy the rest of the cats & the terrific vibe up there. My name is Alex & I lived @ Eno for about 8 years. Those cats have literally been photographed millions of times over the years & appeared in national publications. Love & peace to all.

Or go and visit Kumi @ the last shop near the cave & tell her Alex said hello. Enjoy a beer & bbq clams & seafood with her she is good people & speaks english. I think that is where Mouseback was in the picture of him sleeping. The first picture showes him in action @ the park with the Dragon lovers bell.

Thanks for the detailed info! I visit Enoshima quite often and indeed I often see the cats. They are a tourist attraction in themselves! I will certainly say hello if I spot you or Mouseback the next time I visit! (^-^)
