Beach Sparkler

Posted in People, Places by tokyobling on June 10, 2014

Walking along the Yuigahama beach in Kamakura City on the edge of the Pacific Ocean I saw this couple having fun with some sparklers. It looked fun and romantic. Fireworks are very popular in Japan and an integral part of Japanese culture. Unfortunately there are very few places for people to enjoy them safely in the crowded cities of Japan. But the beach will always do nicely.

The more romantic moments in the anime I have watched often involve fireworks, beaches, or both: obvious verisimilitude?

(When I mislaid my glasses after dinner, G went out to search through the compost pile on the chance that they had been knocked into the bucket with the mango skins, banana peels and coffee grounds and dumped. My romantic hero!)

There is probably something cultural that we as foreigners miss going on here. Beach, fireworks, young couples. I am sure more than one family has started out in this humble way! And I must say things seems to have turned out well for you as well, well done with G!
