Yanaka and the Snake Road Revisited

A couple of weeks ago I spent a lazy afternoon revisiting the Yanaka district and the Snake Road (Hebi Road) that is currently seeing something of a revival in the crazy for the authentic Tokyo downtown experience. You can read more about Snake Road and the are in this post, where I took these photos, and a couple of snapshots in the are around the Snake Road. This is what much of central Tokyo used to look like, 30-50 years ago.

    I love the way a completely ordinary-looking neighbourhood in Tokyo will have so much history behind it. As a casual tourist you can pass by without looking again. Even as an informed tourist, you will not find a photo to explain what is special. Words are necessary to pass on the stories. And, of course, words make blogs and books.

    Oh! Too splendid! I wish there could be such a walking course around the entirety of Tokyo, taking only old streets and introducing you to rare sights.
