Tokyobling's Blog

About Tokyobling

Welcome to Tokyobling. This blog was started in the late autumn of 2008 and grew from a “sometimes” photo blog to an everyday calling and from late November 2014 slowed down a little to a weekday love child. My daily work schedule is to prepare prepare tomorrow’s blogpost, write and publish today’s blogpost and to edit and clean up at least one old blogpost. With over 1900 blog posts (and increasing daily…) this is quite a task!

The Tokyobling Manifesto (ver 2.0):

1. Japan is not Tokyo.
2. Tokyo is not Japan.
3. I shall never repost a story.
4. All the pictures shall be taken by myself.
5. All people things and places are such that I come across in my daily life.
6. Tokyobling is not commercially motivated.

About me:

Tokyobling is about the little things that remind me why I live here. I love the things and people I write about. I stumble upon things a lot, you might too.

How to contact me:

Just write a comment and post it, I will read it. If you don’t mind other pople knowing, just write a little bit about what you want to contact me about. Interesting stuff gets quicker responses. You can also write me on my gmail account. I think you can guess the first part of the address, the rest is the @gmail.com as usual.

Note: This blog is blessed with kind and smart readers, and it shows in the comment section. But please remember that the places and people in the photos are (mostly) real, and some of them even read this blog. So let’s keep it civil and refrain from negative or hurtful comments about them. Negative comments about the photos or postings themselves are better given to me privately, in private emails! (^-^;)

Update 1.1.: Yes, really, the photos are taken by myself, and if you want to repost them in your publication for profit, I accept standard photo journalistic rates. As part of my profession I do rights management for images used by my staff, both images we create, images we order, or images we buy. So I do know about image rights, copyright, etc.

If you want to re-blog for a private, non-commerical blog, go ahead. Please follow the basic rules (it’s just good manners):

    1. You may re-blog one image, or half of the images of the original post (whichever is greater).
    2. In case of there being two images on my post, please only re-blog one of them.
    3. In case of there being three images on my post, please only re-blog two of them.
    4. In case of there being four images on my post, please only re-blog two of them.
    5. In case of there being five images on my post, please only re-blog two of them.
    6. In case of there being six images on my post, please only re-blog three of them.
    7. In case of there being seven images on my post, please only re-blog three of them.

    You get the point…

I keep high resolution files of all my photos, if you feel a need for one of them let me know. I will consider free usage rights for non-profit organizations or charitable causes.

If you do re-blog my photos, please attribute them to me, Tokyobling.

If you stumble across my photos un-attributed or printed in a publication or obviously manipulated, please let me know in the comments section. I will be grateful.

If you are in the pictures or you represent any organization, place, building or trademark in the pictures, I would be happy to talk to you (I only blog/post about things I like or people who look/are cool/good/interesting/in the right place at the right time).

If you have a tip for me about something to blog about, please let me know in the comment section. I will be most grateful. I won’t accept cash for blogging about products or events but I will accept gifts/tickets/candy/swag/freebies/chances to meet cool people or go interesting places.

    Peace!

Thank you for the kind words Aryakuro, and welcome to Tokyobling! You have a nice blog, and you seem to be able to go to a lot of interesting places in Indonesia, I still haven’t had a chance to go there. Maybe some day I will! I am sure you’ll get another chance at visiting Japan someday, in the meantime, study Japanese! It sure helps a lot to be able to speak the language here (^-^)

So this is your About page! When I first started reading your blog last August I thought you worked as a photographer for a living since your photos are just fantastic. I especially like your people and landscape shots. And of course I love it that you allow us to see a little something about the beautiful and (sometimes) boggling country that is Japan. Must. return.
Love the suggested soundtrack too. 😀

Haha… thanks! I do shoot professionally but not for the blog, and it’s not the only thing I have to do at work, unfortunately. I wish I could earn my living by just shooting but it’s a hard business to crack and I have mouths to feed… (well, a mouth). Glad you like the blog and that you keep coming back! The soundtrack is whimsical, just some fun songs with some sort of connection to Japan and the 80’s!

Thanks for the wonderful blog. I love your daily intimate view of Tokyo that you share.

I was wondering, if it’s not too much out of your way, if you might venture to a sweets or pastry shop sometime. I’m pretty curious about pastry, chocolate, and candy in Tokyo, traditionally French inspired and more original and local creations. 🙂

Thank again for the nice photography and keep it up!

Hijya! Thanks for your beautifully presented blog and the wonderful images! I was wondering whether you would give me permission to use one of your images of the Maison Hermes Shop Window Installation of Tokujin Yoshioka (posted on december 14, 2009) in an article I’m currently writting for a book that will be published by av edition later this year? If you do so, please give me direction for the correct copyright note (e.g. © 2009, Courtesy of Tokyobling (tokyobling.wordpress.com).) I’d highly appreciate it.

Under your soundtrack suggestions you might consider adding Josh Ritter’s “Tokyo!” From his album ‘To The Yet Unknowing World’

Hi! Thanks for your kind comment. I use a variety of cameras, I have used a Nikon D40, D90, D700, D3s and even a Ricoh compact of some sort as well as maybe a mobile phone in one or two shots. But the majority of shots are taken with a D700 or D3s using a 16-36mm zoom, a 20mm, 35mm, 50mm, 85mm, 135mm prime lens. I also sometimes use a tele zoom, but 95% of photos are with primes. Hope this helps!

I think, it’s more than a year since I started to follow your blog and now I know there was an about page,
and to know you are a marketing person. (It explained your eye-point — not purely visually orientated but
tend to go into cultural side, a lots more !) And thanks goodness, may be that’s why your posts are often
very educative even to a “native” Japanese. 😀
Thanks a lots for your effort to report while enduring to live earthquake and taiphoon infested place. 😀

I love the pictures you took of Senso-ji Temple at night. One of my hobby is photography; and would like to ask you: what time did you take those pictures?
